Koh Lanta Airport does not currently exist. The nearest airport to Koh Lanta is Krabi Airport. It’s easy to get from Krabi Airport to Koh Lanta.
How To Get From Krabi Airport To Koh Lanta
There are four main ways:
- Krabi Airport to Koh Lanta Express Transfer – the fastest and most exciting way to get door-to-door from Krabi Airport to Koh Lanta. A minivan is waiting for when you arrive at Krabi Airport and drives you to the speedboat. You then take a scenic 15 minute ride from the mainland to Koh Lanta. Another van meets you at Koh Lanta speedboat pier and drives you to your hotel.
- Krabi Airport to Koh Lanta Private Minivan Tour – a luxury aircon minivan takes up to 6 family or friends door to door from Krabi Airport to your Koh Lanta hotel. The minivan uses the Koh Lanta car ferry to cross to Koh Lanta Noi (the small island between the mainland and Koh Lanta itself) and then crosses the bridge from Koh Lanta Noi to Koh Lanta.
- Krabi Airport to Koh Lanta Ferry – a minivan takes you from Krabi Airport to the ferry pier. The ferry then crosses to Koh Lanta and arrives at the pier in Saladan, the island’s main village. You then need to make your own arrangements to get to your hotel (10 minute to 1 hour drive depending on your hotel location).
- Public Minivan – you can get a public minivan from Krabi Airport to Koh Lanta. The minivan waits at the airport until every seat is taken. It then drives to Koh Lanta via the car ferry and the bridge. Be aware that it can be uncomfortably crowded inside the van so if you have more than a backpack or are travelling with children, it’s not the best choice.
When Will Koh Lanta Airport Be Built?
It’s unlikely that Koh Lanta airport will ever be built as the island has steep mountains throughout its interior. It would be an extremely costly project. There is already one bridge built from Koh Lanta to neighbouring, smaller island Koh Lanta Noi.
Once a second bridge is built from Koh Lanta Noi to the Krabi mainland, the journey time from Krabi Airport to Koh Lanta will shorten significantly. Plans to build the second bridge are currently in flux. At the moment a car ferry is used to cross from the Krabi mainland to Koh Lanta Noi, and then driving across Koh Lanta Noi and over the bridge to Koh Lanta.
